ChroStory is a private, secure digital time capsule service. It allows you to intentionally create and curate collections ("Kapsules") of your most meaningful memories – photos, videos, notes, and voice recordings – over time. It's designed to preserve the context and emotion of moments for future reflection or for sharing with specific recipients at a predetermined date.

Getting Started & Usage

How do I get started with ChroStory?

It's easy! Just sign up for a free account on our website (ChroStory.com - placeholder link). From there, you can immediately start creating Kapsules and uploading your photos, videos, notes, and voice recordings.

What types of files can I upload?

ChroStory supports common image formats (like JPEG, PNG, GIF), video formats (like MP4, MOV, AVI), audio files (MP3 for voice notes), and various document types for text notes.

Who can edit Kapsules?

The creator of a Kapsule has full editing control by default. However, ChroStory supports collaboration! You can invite others (like a spouse or family member) to contribute to a specific Kapsule, allowing them to add their own photos, videos, notes, and voice recordings to build the collection together.

Sharing & Collaboration

Who can see my ChroStory Kapsules?

You have complete control. Kapsules are private by default. You explicitly invite specific people ("Recipients") via email to view a Kapsule. Only those you invite will have access.

What's the difference between a Recipient and a Trustee?

  • Recipients are the individuals you want to share the Kapsule's contents with, either now or when it's revealed/delivered in the future.
  • Trustees are designated individuals entrusted with the long-term management and preservation of a Kapsule. They may have responsibilities related to ensuring the Kapsule is delivered according to your wishes, potentially after a long period or in specific circumstances (details align with digital legacy features).

Privacy & Security

Is my data safe with ChroStory?

Yes. Protecting your memories is our top priority. We use industry-standard encryption methods to protect your data both during transfer (in transit) and while stored on our servers (at rest). We are committed to robust security practices.

How does ChroStory protect my privacy?

Your Kapsules are private by default. We operate on a privacy-first principle and will never share your personal data or Kapsule contents with third parties without your explicit consent. Subscription & Billing

What are the subscription plans?

We offer a Free Tier (1GB storage, 3 Kapsules, limited sharing), a Basic Plan ($7.99/mo for 5GB storage, 5 Kapsules, increased sharing), and a unique $20 One-Time Upgrade option for individual Kapsules created on the Free Tier (provides 20GB/25 years for that specific Kapsule). What happens if I stop paying for my monthly subscription?

If your subscription payment lapses, your account won't be immediately deleted. Your Kapsules will enter a read-only state for a one-year grace period. You can view existing content but cannot add new content or create new Kapsules.

Can I reactivate my account during the grace period?

Yes, you can reactivate your subscription by updating your payment information at any time during the one-year grace period. Your account will return to full functionality.

What is the grace period "allowance" policy?

The one-year grace period is intended to provide flexibility. If you use part of this grace period (e.g., 4 months) and then reactivate your subscription, you must maintain the paid subscription for at least three consecutive months to begin earning back your used grace period allowance, at a rate of one month earned back per paid month after the initial three. This policy helps prevent misuse of the extended grace period.

What happens after the grace period or extended non-payment?

Your Kapsules remain in read-only mode during the one-year grace period. We will not delete your data during this year. However, to manage storage resources sustainably, accounts that remain inactive and unpaid for five consecutive years after the subscription initially lapsed may be subject to deletion according to our Terms of Service. We will make reasonable attempts to notify you before any such action.

Legacy & Transfer

Can I transfer my Kapsules to someone else (e.g., for legacy planning)?

Yes, transferring Kapsules is an important part of our vision for digital legacy. Paid Kapsules (those created under a subscription plan or upgraded via the one-time purchase) are eligible for transfer. You can designate a beneficiary who can receive ownership under specific circumstances. The exact process and any requirements will be detailed in our documentation.

Can Free Kapsules be transferred?

No, Kapsules created and maintained solely under the Free Tier (and not upgraded with the one-time purchase) are not eligible for the formal beneficiary transfer process. Upgrading the Kapsule enables this feature.
